The Flatbread Company is the exact kind of pizza place you would expect to find in a town like Paia. The food is created using all-natural and organic ingredients and is fired in a giant stone oven before your very eyes. The chef’s are like ninjas with their giant wooden spatula’s, flipping and turning pizza pies like it’s their job, probably because it is. The Flatbread Company is everything we love about the hippie, big wave surfer town of Paia all rolled into one delicious and crispy crust.

I think it’s that time. Time to recite the company’s purpose and values! Flatbread only uses top quality ingredients, clean food without pesticides or chemicals, supports organic farming, uses local foods and supports community farms, creates a restaurant environment where people can renew their spirit, creates a company where advancement is based on performance and not politics (I really like this one!), reconnects us to nature, educates people about the connection between food and nature and finally, gives back to the community. It’s quite the list, but it’s all good! If you’re a conscious eater, you can sleep well at night after giving your money to a restaurant like the Flatbread Company.

The service is perfect. Very friendly hippie folk with enough piercings and tattoo’s to make only the most ignorant of people cringe. The waitress we had was excited to be working there, and we could really see it in her expression. My glass was never left empty and everything was brought out at just the right time.

As for the food, it’s delicious and fresh. There are plenty of vegan and vegetarian options, and you don’t have to feel uncomfortable about requesting vegan or vegetarian. They are well versed in the veggie vocabulary. People obviously come for their flatbread, but you have to try the organic salad as well. They also have a nice selection of unique and healthy beverages, and even a bar should you choose to enjoy your time even more. The environment is warm, rustic and does just what they claim: renews your spirit.

They also supply every table with a cup of crayons and paper! I was so busy drawing and coloring that I almost forgot to eat. I drew a lovely gecko delivering a flatbread pizza with the sun and clouds in the background. It was a masterpiece, and I expect to see it on one of their menu’s when I return!
